When i try to turn it over it will run for a second or so and then stalls out
I have a 1990 chrysler imperial And when i try to turn it over it will run for a second or so and then stalls out. Could this be my fuel pump? When i turn the key twice without turning it over i hear the fuel pump wind.But when i turn it the third time i dont hear it. This is when i turn it over on the fourth time it will run for that second. Then when i turn it over again it will just act like its not getting fuel. And i can repeat the process it will do the same thing. I sprade eather in the cleaner and it fired right up and stayed running as long as i sprade as soon as i stopped the car stalled out. This is why i think its the fuel pump. I also have that crappy stock theft alarm installed could this be the problem.. Oh ya when i start the car and before it stalls i turn the key back and forth (off and on) and it will stay running. Weird but true. Well i hope i discribed it the best i could its better to tell it in person to get a better idea..

I have two 1991 Imperials ..
And when the light starts flashing on dash to left of the steering wheel and car will not start...
I put key in driver door and turn lock then unlock and the problem is fixed till next time the
theft device does that another day.
I read a tsb on this very problem becasue my friends 91 New Yorker is doing the same thing. The answer is the computer becuse it has a VTA mode, but if there was no Vehicle Theft Alarm factory installed then it will sometimes get stuck in this mode requireing a replacement computer. here is the link I found the Technial Service Bulliten on. http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl111f.htm
The wining noise you hear when turning the key stops after the 3rd turn as the computer goes into diagnostic mode. If you watch the 'check engine' light after turning the ignition on/off three times, leaving it turned on the 3rd time the check engine light will flash out codes to you regarding any faults that the computer sees. Count the first number of flashes then it will pause, count the second number of flashes. Put the 2 numbers together and you have your code. You can go to www.allpar.com to find out what problems each code means, ot type chrysler engine codes into your search. This site will also give you more detailed instructions on how to read your codes. This should give you a better answer an whats causing your problem. It sounds like it may be a map sensor. Good luck.
