When I was at shool I was told there were 5 Continents ( Asia, America, Africa, Anttarica, and Europe.) but now I amtold it is 7 . Which is correct and when did it get altered?

I agree with your list of 5, there is also a 6th. Australasia (Australia and New Zealand) don't know a seventh.
