Whenever I start my HP laptop, a black screen loads and it says " Boot device not found, please install an operating system on your hard disk". I have no clue how to fix this

That message means that your hard drive is bad and is not seen by your computer. If it is under warranty, HP will fix it. If not, you can find a hard drive for it for $70 +, depending on what capacity you purchase.

Sounds like the hard drive has been formatted and you need to install windows on it. Was it working before or did you just buy it second hand?
