You Primary Sensor is located under the front Cowling, just below the Hood latch. This is the info you need which I retrieved from the ford tech manual . Normal Operation The normal voltage on pins 2, 6, 17 and 18 is controlled by an internal resistor inside the air bag diagnostic monitor (14B056) and is internally regulated to 10 (± one) volts. The resistance between these pins in the air bag diagnostic monitor connector and ground should be infinite. The resistance across the normally open contacts of the two radiator primary crash front air bag sensors should also be infinite. The air bag diagnostic monitor measures the voltage on pins 2, 6, 17 and 18. If there is any resistance to ground on any of these pins or across the radiator primary crash front air bag sensor contacts, it will cause the diagnostic voltage on these pins to drop below normal levels. If the air bag diagnostic monitor measures a voltage drop to between 5 and 10 volts, the air bag diagnostic monitor senses an internal voltage regulation fault and will flash diagnostic trouble code (DTC) 53. Note that a direct short to ground in the radiator primary crash front air bag sensor circuits will drop the voltage to less than 5 volts, and the air bag diagnostic monitor will flash DTC 14 on the air bag warning indicator (refer to DTC 14 in this section). The Module could be the problem and is under the front of the center console. There was a Recall on the Module on vehicles built between 9/22/94 and 10/15/94 and at the Hermosillo Assembly Plant. I would check with a local Ford Dealer, they can check the Vehicle Identification Number and see if this vehicle was effected. The air bag diagnostic monitor also performs several on-board diagnostics every time the ignition switch is turned to ON. If any of these tests fail, the air bag diagnostic monitor will flash DTC 53 on the air bag warning indicator. Once you have removed the final panel, you will be able to view the airbag diagnostic monitor. The airbag diagnostic monitor in a ford escort is a "blue" or black box, that sits in a tight compartment near the floor toward the firewall. If your vehicle has been through the recall procedure, it will have a plastic cover on the top of it, and the wire connectors on the passenger side will have grease on them. Look for broken plastic, corrosion, burning, or loose connections (It is not necessary to disconnect the wiring to inspect the airbags). Remove the driver air bag by removing the retaining bolts on the back of the steering wheel (2 10mm bolts). Passenger airbag is accessed by opening the glove compartment, pushing the retaining bumpers "in", to drop it down. Passenger airbag is held in by 4 8mm bolts. If you see signs of prior deployment, you will need to replace the air bags, airbag sensors, and the airbag diagnostic monitor. If there are no signs of deployment they should be fine. 3.
