Where is the fuel filter on a 1978 mercury 500 50 h.p. out board motor located. im asking cause my boat works awesome until i get close to top speed it starts bogging out in 1 sec intervals and i dont know why

Standard system is in the fuel pump on side of engine where the feed pipe comes in , very basic and i would fit a water seperating filter in the boat which is the size of an oil filter and saves stripping the carbs when you get dirt and water in your fuel ! check the diaphram is ok and not hard and no leaks !
