The serial number has nothing to do with the type of brake cable your bike uses. In most cases they are the standard brake cables with the dot end. A way to see what is needed is to take a cable off the brake handle. There are 2 major kinds. A barrel end and a dot end. Some packages come with both ends on a cable, just cut the end you don't need off and install the new cable. These are a bit more than the single end cable. A single end cable can be purchased at any bike shop, on the internet, at ebay for instance. Even Walmart is carrying them now. I would take your old cable into the local bike shop, the clerk or service person can assist you in finding the right cable
