Usually, there's a stripe down one wire (sometimes it's a different colour), for reference. Some people use the stripe as negative, some as positive. It won't affect the sound, as long as you use the same for both.
If it's possible to experiment, put them in situ, then listen. Switch the wires on just one of them. Pick the sound you prefer. The sound should change though.
