Stainless Steel are alloys that are made up of iron and generally contain around 11.5% chromium. The addition of chromium allows the alloy to form a protective self-healing oxide film, thereby making them resistant to corrosion and oxidation even at extremely high temperatures. Due to this feature, stainless steel is used for making products across many fields. For obtaining special properties, nickel and other elements can be added to this alloy.
Stainless Steel has excellent resistance to corrosion, protection against corrosion, hygienic material, good strength and ductility, ease of fabrication, ease of maintenance, excellent durability.
Stainless steel is less reactive with foods as compared to other materials.
Therefore, it is used in different industries such as Food industry, Pharmaceutical industry, Petrochemical industry, Automotive industry, Construction industry, Oil and Gas industry, Medical field, Water and sewage systems, Aviation engine components, Nuclear industry.

Generally speaking stainless steel is non porous so there is no place for food borne pathogens to hide. It is easy to clean and durable. It reflects light and adds to overall ability to see.
A number of materials react with the food and can impart their taste on them. Stainless steel doesn't react with the food and ensures that the food retains its actual taste. Moreover, it is also one of the safest surfaces for cooking as it doesn't allow microorganisms to colonize on it. Due to this reason, not just commercial kitchens, but hospitals too, use stainless steel in their kitchen abundantly.
Stainless steel is a combination of low-carbon steel and chromium. It is strong, durable and most of all, it is corrosion resistant. Moreover, stainless steel will retain its shiny appearance over an extended period as it doesn't absorb stains, which is a common problem with many other cooking materials. IMHO, stainless steel is a fad. It is pretty but a real pain to keep looking nice. It shows fingerprints, water spots, and scratches easily.
