I just had a similar problem with my Whirlpool dryer. It would squeek very loudly and then chirp a bit and then go quiet. Took the back off and found that the belt tensioner arm pulley that drives the drum turning had stopped spinning. Sprayed some silicone on the hub a couple of times and it freed up and is working again. Everything is fine for now. I'm going to order a new part 'cause I know it will just happen again when the silicone wears out.
