If you arte talking the drive shaft from the transfer case to the front diff this will be from failed "U" joints and worn out splines in the slip joint. Because of the acute operating angles of the front shaft the wear factor is greater than normal and if using 4wd on hard surfaces the torque wind up places extra stress on this shaft which results in greater wear. Best solution is a new shaft and grease the slip joints and "U" joints (Fit joints with grease nipples) on a regular basis and only use 4wd on off road conditions.
