Why won't it allow me to record a program either manually or on timer setting?

Why won't it allow me to record a program either manually or on timer setting?

When record button is pushed it gives me the zero with a line through it. there is sufficient space left on the disk

System can't change the cataloging menu at the start of the disc. There is no room at the beginning to make the change.
