Why wont my soft top go down in my Saab 1997 2.3 convertible? I bought it a month ago. The motor doesn't go on.I found some sort of switch near the back window just sitting there I decided to turn the
As described above the soft top won't go up or down I got the motor to go it just makes a noise it doesn't seem to go up or down? As I said before I found the switch there was no sound at all? Now I can hear the motor going but doesn't seem to engage with any gears to lift the top?

There's quite a few motors back there...the only user operable switch I know of is the one on the console between the seats, behind the ignition switch. Mine is a 2.0 turbo, 900 SE.
You dont state if the tonneau cover lifts or not...if that isnt lifting there's a coulpe options.
The little gear on the lift motor is stripped...very common issue, they are no longer available, but youre better off ebaying a rebuilt motor and swapping the whole thing out anyway. If it clicked a few times the first couple times you tried to put it up, and the cover shuddered a bit, and now does nothing, or has always done nothing, that is your most likely culprit.
Another poster refers to the "linkage"...its a universal joint on the end of a square rod about a foot or so long extending from the tonneau lift motor. They can come undone I suppose, they have a set screw holding them in place. I havent seen one break or strip out, it's 1/2 inch square drive basically, they are pretty rugged.
You can find most 94-98 NG900 saab 'vert parts here: http://www.thesaabsite.com/900new/Saab-900-convertible-parts.html
except the motor and the drive screw I mentioned above.
About 2.5 hours to replace the whole motor, which I got as a rebuild on ebay for $200.
Good luck
The linkage has broken or fallen off the motor.
