Why would my 1996 Nissan Maxima turnover with no issues but will not start all the time?
I had my friend use his code tester and the below codes came up: PO1400-Manufacturer Controlled Auxiliary Emission Controls PO1335-Manufacturer Controlled Ignition System Or Misfire

Try checking the starter or putting a new starter in. Most likely the problem is that U need 2 buy a new ignition switch which is easy to remove and to install a new 1. This happened 2 me & I went thru 2 of these switches so the 3rd one is in there now. It would start sometimes & others it wouldn't. U don't have 2 re-key the ignition or make new keys. 4- 6 screws to remove the steering column and 2 or 4 screws to remove the ignition switch along with a electrical connection. My bet is on this ignition switch. The dealership knows this causes the problem so check with the Nissan parts dept. It should take 30 minutes to 1 hr to do. Simple to replace & a defective ignition switch is the likely cause. My '96 Nissan has 231,500 MILES ON IT. When U see the new part U will understand. I hope this helps U. Jim R.
Hi Jim, It is very helpful and also makes sense. When I checked my codes one of them was P1335 which is a manufactured controlled ignition system or misfire. I will let you know the out come once I replace it. Thanks Again. Todd
Fuel injectors -- run some concentrate cleaner along with tank of premium gas - that should clean them up. If that is the problem source things should work better. If it is not then you may have to have the injectors cleaned or replaced.
Thank you very much. I will give it a try. Todd
