Wont start in cold
Battery is new and fine, when starting it sounds weak and wont turn over. is it the alternator, starter or ignition coil? car has 115,000 miles. non turbo. if it is the battery needing to be replaced, why every year during the cold. how do i prevent this?

Sounds as if you have a poor battery cable connection somewhere in the system. Check all the connections to ensure they are tight and clean. If that doesn't help you will need to check the starter draw to see if the starter is going out, this requires a clamp on ampmeter and should go to an automotive shop for diagnostics.
Why a connection during winter?
You have different metals being bolted together that will contract differently at different temperatures.
