Wont turn on, red light just blinks. prior to this, it was getting hot, and shut off. put a small fan behind it, worked fine for about 3 months, now nothing. I have the base off already how can you help?

Try having a look at the t.v transformer. If its damaged you can feel this thing. That is as soon as you switch the t.v on it goes off. The time taken to go off reduces as days passes. If it is so, don't hesitate to get it replaced. It is small and cheap and is readily available in the market. Go for the best one or else the new one too can go out soon.
Most likely a capacitor or power supply is faulty. You can test power supply with a voltmeter. If it turns out ok, then get a analog meter and ohmmeter and test your capacitors.
Check for any swollen cpacitors and resistors and look for any burn marks on the board.
