wood furnace. Blows hot air into 2 cold air returns. HVAC man says new ductwork. What is the problem? Clogged pressure switch? Do not want to start work until I understand what caused the problem as it was preexisting before house purchase. Both previous owner and me are retired ladies in the same financial boat. Look closely at the ductwork; determine which is your returns and which is your supply, and also check for" old baffles "that may be diverting your supply air into a return. On the outside of the duck work you will see a wingnut or some have small handles that indicate the placement of the baffle and in the direction it is facing (vertical) will mean it shut off (horizontal) will mean that it is letting air pass through. If they're working properly and not loose. It sounds like they had the old furnaces Duck work is in a loop for part of the home to recirculate the air that was heated . that would be my guess without looking at it . I hope this helps you, look in the right direction it's definitely duck work that is causing your problem. Also get Mastick and UL ratedtape from your local hardware store to patch holes and cracks Old ductwork. that will help You with the efficiency of your furnace.
