AM USING A GATEWAY LAPTOP WITH OPTIARC DVD RW AD7640S ATA. IT WAS WORKING INITIALLY BUT FOR SOMETIME NOW WHEN I INSERT ANY CD, IT TELL ME TO INSERT A CD INTO THE DEVICE EVEN THOUGH ITS INSIDE. AM USING VISTA. CAN ANYONE HELP THANKS IN ADVANCE

DVD drive doesn't work. It worked fine for a short time, but suddenly stopped reading discs. It tries to find data on the inserted discs, but eventually just pops out the drive. It was still under warranty but I couldn't afford to be without the laptop to send it in in time to have it fixed. I had called Gateway and started a case number and they had me go into the registry and remove upper and lower filters and said if that didn't do it just to replace the whole laptop. Again, I never sent it in within the year warranty period, but I'm desperately trying to get it back into operation as the external I bought is very cumbersome and inconvenient to use. Any other ideas as to how to possibly resolve this problem? Thanks!`
