I have a Dayton 1TDR3 blower motor for my wood stove that I would like to install a fan control switch on. I purchased a dimmer switch from Lowes, thinking that would work, but when I connect the black to black, black to white, and green to green, it blows the circuit. If I connect just one black from the switch to the black on the motor and the green to green, it doesn't do anything. Is there a way to connect the dimmer switch to use as a fan controller?
Dryers - Dayton - Permanent Split Capacitor Motor Fan
First off, There are 2 different kinds of dimmer controls. One that says for incandescent lights only, and one that is for fan motors only. Secondly it would never blow the circuit unless you wired everything very very wrong. Draw on a piece of paper the power wires the load wires and where you would like to wire the switch. draw the white wires marretted together and wire the load to one of the switch wires and the live to the last switch wire.
