I have a 'refurbished' unit so I understand that can bring problems in itself... I had to replace the lamp about 5 months after purchasing the unit. This lamp served us well for a couple years. I replaced the lamp again and this new lamp lasted only three weeks before it went out with a bang - literally - a loud popping noise. Before I replace the lamp yet again, is there something I should look for which typically causes the lamps to blow - other than bad luck with the lamp?
Two most common reasons for the lamp to go BOOM 1)Incorrect replacement lamp . Always buy lamps from the manufacturer. This will ensure that the lamp you get durable and usually comes with a longer warranty period than just one month. 2)A faulty ballast board AKA the lamp's power supply. In most modern tvs, the tv will be turned off if the ballast board is putting out more voltage than it should. However I have seen a few that do not have this protection feature. If you want further instructions for testing the ballast board please provide the make and model number of your tv.
