There should be no issue transferring documents between PCs using flash drives, so long as there is no issue with compatibility and the proper techniques are used. However, it is unclear exactly what equipment and software versions are involved, as well as the methodology you are using to "transfer" the documents.

Please indicate the OS of your PC and your laptop, as well as the versions of MS Works being used on both. Also, if you could describe the steps you take in detail it would be helpful. For instance, when you "loaded a couple of documents from" your PC, was this done by copying using a My Computer window, or by opening and saving to the Attache while in Works? Further, when you attempt to transfer them to the laptop, are you using My Computer, Explorer, or attempting to open them in Works? There is a difference in the potential issues based on the methods you are trying to use - this is why I ask.

I believe, also, that your issue with the file that "should be" on the laptop (older version) is a separate matter, and we should deal with that once we have resolved the transfer problem.

As a matter of general information, if the two systems have different operating systems (OSs) and/or different versions of Works, these would represent the most common contributing factors to an issue such as that you describe. However, I think that, barring an issue with incompatibility, which should only be created by older versions, e.g., we should be able to resolve the matter for you.

Additionally, I would suggest that you do not open and/or save files directly from the program (Works in this case) to/from the flash drive. This can create a great deal of confusion not only for us as users, but also for your computer!

Generally, you should be able to open a My Computer window (or Explorer, if you are more comfortable with that window), go to the drive and see the files there with the relevant file statistics. Then open another My Computer window, which you use to navigate to the place where you want to save the file, such as My Documents, and perhaps a folder within that area. It should then be as simple as a drag and drop between the two windows to duplicate and/or move the files from the flash drive to the hard drive of the particular machine. (This would work in reverse for the original process of copying the file from the PC hard drive to the flash drive.)

In other words, do not attempt to right click and open the file from the flash drive. Instead, right click, drag the file to the location where you want it to be on your laptop, and choose Move or Copy to place the file on the laptop's hard drive.

Please post back with additional information as needed, and we will work you through this issue. The fact that both Attaches are demonstrating the same characteristics, however, suggests that there may be a compatibility issue. Have you successfully used either or both of these drives on both machines before?

In regard to the file you believe should already be on your laptop, you can search for the file, as it may be simply misplaced or named in a manner other than you expect. Click your Start button, click Search, and complete parameters as you feel are appropriate for the file you seek. The results should return in a search results window, and hopefully your file will be listed there for you.
