Clone PC with M825G v9.2A motherboard, AMD cpu, about 4 years old, suddenly powered down during normal operation. Power would not turn back on. Replaced power supply, but same problem. After investigation, it turns out that IF the CPU power plug is removed from the motherboard, the powersupply, fans, etc. will start. Re-attaching the CPU plug to the motherboard sparks, and kills the power supply (self-protection circuitry). Inspected motherboard, no obvious sign of burns or shorts. Is the problem the motherboard, or the CPU? All cards, memory have been removed, same problem occurs
