I recently installed a thermal cut off and high limit thermostat on a whirlpool ler5636kq1 dryer. It was the kit that you had to cut and crimp the wires to the thermostat and I followed some step by step instructions with pictures that I found online and it seems to be working properly. Before installing the kit, the dryer was taking a couple of hours to dry a load of towels. It now takes about 30 minutes or so. However, the timer seemed to stop advancing on the automatic mode (high, low and air fluff settings) and will advance in the time mode, but hangs up after the cool down cycle and will not turn off. I replaced the timer today with a new one and it did not seem to fix my problem. I have tested the dryer with the duct off to make sure there was not blockage affecting the automatic cycle. One more thing, I found some small little gear looking items when I took the duct off the back and was just sure they came out of the timer somehow, but can't imagine how. I totally bummed that my new timer did not fix the advancing problem. Could I have possibly installed the thermostat upside down? There were some letters on it, but nowhere in the diagram did it tell me that it could make a difference. Any suggestions?
