NVIDA 8400 I'm using a Dell Dimension 3000 (fairly low end, circa 2003-2005). Two years ago, upgraded the 512MB ram included to 2GB. Everything on the computer suits my needs except for the god forsaken integrated graphics. So tonight, after many a "this game requires a graphics card that supports pixel shading" messages, I went and picked up a PCI Graphics Card, the titular NVIDA Geforce 8400. It's PCI because Dell included no AGP slot nor is this computer PCI-E capable. I installed the card easily enough. It started up just fine. The expected "add new hardware" screen popped up. In the instruction manual, it takes me through a series of steps to provoke windows to include the "standard display adapter." These series of instructions apparently didn't apply to my computer. I ended up having to install the drivers on the CD (which the manual has you do later on). Towards the end there was a flicker and my monitor reset. Before I rebooted, I noted that dragging a window or minmizing anything was sluggish and I could see the window moving in slow motion. Everything on the computer seemed to load much slower than normal. I wrote this off as the drivers not having taken effect and rebooted. Windows loading just fine, up to the point when I'm supposed to hit the desktop. The screen went pitch black. It didn't lock up, because i heard the windows start sound. I disconnected my monitor cable from the 8400 back to the integrated graphics and everything appeared fine. So, I'm at a loss at what is happening here. I've done my due diligence, and I've found this question being asked time and again by other Dell users. None of their attempts have been successful. Users on other forums suggested third party shareware to remove drivers, manual uninstalling drivers, and the obligatory "get a REAL computer." It may simply be that this computer simply won't work with this card. I'm hoping you'll support me in determining that. In conclusion, I have one final observation to offer: When I disconnect my monitor altogether, I'll receive a green light and a message that there's no signal. Connected it to the integrated graphics = green light and desktop. Connecting to the 8400 = brown light (similar to when connected to integrated graphics port with computer power off). This leads me to suspect that this issue may begin and end with my monitor. Unfortunately, I have no other monitor (or at least, no newer monitor) to test this theory. Many thanks in advance for your consideration. ej
