While working, WinXP suddenly shows a "New hardware detected" message in the tray, showing a Maxtor hard drive with a very strange serial (alpha numeric code with lots of special chars such as " % $ etc). This is an IDE drive I use as data storage only, running my system in other SATA drive. I then go to check out the drive (E:) and find it working but, while opening a few jpg files as verification, the system said it could not find the file locations i was trying to access. Went back to MyPC and could no longer see E: drive but I could find a just-installed drive (no drive access character assigned) in the Hard Drive Manager. Is there a way to put this drive back to work without losing the data? What could have happened? Thanks
