Electric cord on my Rowenta (Model DE880) steam iron lasts about 6 months. The black or white wire keeps braking after about 6 months of use. I'm a retired navy ET and electrical engineer. I took Iron back to Kohl's the first time and they replaced the unit. The replacement had identical problem. However, I repaired it myself 3 times. Each time it lasts about 6 months. I suspect that the power cord wires that are twisted to form the conductor are to heavy of a gauge. To much bending brakes the wire. My experiance tells me that the twisted wires have to be of very small gauge and twisted quite close
