I have a number of impact printers using jetdirect 170x on an iseries with remote outq. We used these for many years on an 810 model with V5R4 . we recently upgraded the box to a 520 model with v5r4 and applied all the PTF's ect We have a problem with the printers on the 170x now. when you release a print job fro the queue , the status changes from HLD to snd , but will not print after a few minutes the status changes back to HLD to get around the problem , we need to release a plane test print job like a job log if not the normal forms we use on the printer will not print , this only happens after we do the IPL on the weekend , we need to send a joblob to each 170x to "clean the line" "flush the jetdirect" how ever you want to say it
